Attention Deschutes County High School Seniors!

The League of Women Voters, Deschutes County (LWVDC) believes students are the best advocates to increase voter turnout in their age group. To encourage that advocacy, LWVDC has initiated a student essay contest: Y-Essay.

The Y-Essay (Yes-Youth-Why) contest offers an opportunity for high school seniors to write and submit an essay on the following topic: “Why Vote?” Winning essayists will receive a $500 prize.

All essays must be individually written and submitted according to contest rules by October 17, 2022. These rules and more information can be found on the LWVDC website. Link to contest rules and online submission is bit.ly/Y-Essay

Essay judges will include LWVDC members, Deschutes County educators, and community volunteers. Winners will be announced on November 1, 2022.
