Community garden hosts plant sale as fundraiser

June 10th | Fundraiser

On March 10th, 2021, the Shared Future Coalition unanimously voted to officially join forces with a community driven prevention group in Sisters, Oregon. Sisters community members and organizations have been working together on youth marijuana use prevention since January 2020 under the guidance of Deschutes County Health Services Prevention Staff, Lyndi Petty.

The Shared Future Coalition currently serves the entire Deschutes County area but, until recently, had limited capacity to reach the Sisters community. The move to combine efforts with the Sisters prevention group represents the collaborative and community-centric nature of the Coalition, as well as the shared goal of reducing the harmful effects of adolescent substance use. One representative from Sisters mentioned, “It sometimes feels like Sisters is all alone on an island”. By aligning with the Shared Future Coalition, the Sisters prevention group hopes to alleviate some of the geographical challenges of being a rural community in Deschutes County with fewer resources.

For branding purposes, the group will now identify themselves in the community as the Shared Future Coalition of Sisters.

As we all know, it takes a village to reduce underage substance use. The Shared Future Coalition of Sisters is currently seeking new members to help execute their current action plan to reduce youth substance use. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in attending the next meeting via Zoom or would like to learn more about our efforts. Meetings take place every third Friday of the month from 10:00-11:30am.
