Quilts for Kids

Detailed Information

Quits for Kids is part of the East of the Cascades Quilters (EOCQ) Guild who has a mission to provide quilts and pillow cases to children in Central Oregon who need the comfort of a handmade quilt or pillow case.  Sally Blust leads the group that is made up of 36 members who make these quilts and pillowcases.  Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the members are all sewing at home rather than meeting monthly at The Stitchin’ Posit.

In spite of the challenges 2020 has brought, these quilters are on target to distribute more quilts and pillowcases than ever before!  By the end of the year they will have distributed 145 quilts and 152 pillow cases.  This compares to 90 quilts and 78 pillowcases in 2019.

This year when the group found out about the devastation caused by the Beachie Creek Fire in the Santiam Canyon just west of Sisters, they went to work to provide 51 quilts to families who had lost their homes.  The remaining quilts and pillowcases will be donated to Sisters Family Area Network, Deschutes County Sheriff, Black Butte Ranch Sheriff, Sisters/Camp Sherman Fire “Toys for Tots”, MA Lynch Head Start and Ryan’s Cases for Smiles – St. Charles Hospital. This year the group also provided quilts to seniors at The Lodge in Sisters to add some holiday cheer.

Quilts for Kids in under the 501(c)(3) umbrella of the EOCQ Guild and gladly accepts donations of “kid themed” quilting fabric and batting.  They also need volunteers to sew the quilts and pillowcases.

Contact Sally Blust at [email protected] if you would like to make a donation or sew quilts and pillowcases.
