Community garden hosts plant sale as fundraiser
The Sisters Community Garden invites the public to its GROW flower sale Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11. The sale is the non-profit group’s major fundraiser of the year. Volunteers from the garden have planted and nurtured hundreds of annuals and perennials that are ready to bloom and make home gardens shine! Many of the plants for sale are proven deer resistant and drought tolerant, making them good additions to Central Oregon gardens. The sale also offers native species and pollinators, and even a few plants that can be used to dye fabric. Plants such as dahlias, Texas blue bonnets, holy clover, hummingbird mint, and several species of sunflowers are just some of the 50 types of plants that will be available. The sale on Saturday June 10 takes place at the Sisters Community Garden at 15869 Barclay Dr. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Sunday, June 11 sale will take place at the Sisters Farmer’s Market. An addition to the Sunday sale is an activity to learn about planting and nurturing tomatoes. Garden volunteers will demonstrate the best way to plant, water and grow tomatoes from seed. Visitors can plant free seeds in four inch pots of specially mixed potting soil to take home. The Farmer’s Market takes place on SE Fir St. in downtown Sisters, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The non-profit Sisters Community Garden brings together local residents to grow healthy produce and flowers in a shared place that enables them to learn about planting, growing and maintaining a garden. This year, garden members are growing produce to donate to local food banks
